We are getting ready for the first day of fall! We plan to put all of our plants that were purchased from the nursery in the ground. Today we added soil and started our seeds for carrots, peas, beets and collards inside. We will be closely tracking the germination process in our Science journals.

We added a few containers to the Learning Lab today! These containers were strategically placed to match our diagrams that we made last week. We will be preparing these containers and filling them with soil very soon.
Today we cleaned up our garden space, sketched plan ideas, and drew detailed diagrams of our garden area. This is also the day that the class decided on the name of our garden--The Learning Lab.
Today we started our Learning Lab project. We walked out and observed our area, discussed the big plan, and listed the things we need to do to clean up the area. The only existing gardening space is the 4x8 foot raised bed you can see in the photo. This is a raised bed that a class used over two years ago for a salsa garden.
Take a moment to visualize the area above- a weeded raised bed, the addition of 2-4 more raised beds, containers for container gardening, a trellis and arch pouring with vined growth, pea gravel covering the grass for easy management, colorful murals encouraging kindness and growth on the tan spaces of the wall, flourishing vegetables, flowers and herbs, and most importantly...students working collaboratively and independently in the garden area to manage, maintain, collect data, and GROW. The big picture and end goal is B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L!! |
